would you do if
you came face to face
with your wifes lover?
Wealthy author Andrew
Wyke finds himself in this
very position and he
has a few unpleasant
tricks up his sleeve...
IN THIS GRIPPING REMAKE OF THE 1972 classic film Sleuth, wealthy
writer Andrew Wyke (Michael Caine, Hannah And Her Sisters, The Cider
House Rules) agrees to meet his wife Maggie's lover Milo Tindle (Jude
Law, Closer, Cold Mountain) to discuss her demands for a divorce.
But instead of accepting gracefully, Wyke has a counter-proposal of his own:
He asks Tindle to break into his hi-tech English manor house to rob him of some
valuable jewels, saying that he wants to claim on his insurance. He also says
that he has already made arrangements for the supposedly-stolen jewels to bought
for a substantial sum in Holland and that Tindle and Maggie should take
them to sell them there, and keep the money.
Nobel Prize-winning Harold Pinter's sharp-witted adaptation of the classic 1972
thriller Sleuth is directed by the critically-acclaimed Kenneth Branagh.
Double Oscar-winner Michael Caine joins forces with Jude Law to great effect
as Wyke and Tindle who come together as opponents and become locked in
a deadly duel as each plays out a dangerous cat-and-mouse game of intimidation
But the game that had begun in an apparently logical way, with Wyke getting
Tindle to act out the proposed theft, soon turns nasty. The clever wit becomes
wicked and cutthroat as their struggle for one-upmanship escalates out of control
to a climax of humiliation and revenge, and a startling conclusion. But
has Wyke met his match with the arrival of the unconventional, arrogant and
rather sleazy Detective Inspector Eddie Black from New Scotland Yard…
Superbly written and absorbing, Sleuth showcases the acting talent and
chemistry of these two superstars of British cinema.
